“Surreal allegory, black comedy, film noir in the guise of a kitsch musical, an intellectual version of “Showgirls” or anarchist cinema along the lines of Makavejev?”. These were the thoughts of film critic Babis Achtsoglou upon seeing the first feature-length film by Nikos Triandafyllidis about a cabaret club whose eclectic clientele includes charming scoundrels, alluring dancers and Harry Klynn in a role that runs counter to everything he's done before in his career.
An elderly storekeeper decides to treat himself to a new overcoat and a tailor goes back to work to make his friend's dream come true. Based on Nikolai Gogol's short story of the same name, this moving film is the rare artistic meeting, as well as the swan song, for two great actors: Dinos Iliopoulos and Vassilis Diamantopoulos. Tuxedomoon, the dark offsprings of the San Francisco electronic scene, reunited in 1997 in Greece. Nikos Triandafyllidis managed to capture the band's unworldly melodies and post-punk aesthetic in an invaluable document of their historic concert at the Lycabettus theatre.
