When a pretty dancer moves next door, her computer geek neighbors decide to install a CCTV system in her apartment to watch her activities. What starts as a slightly dodgy joke ends up in tragedy. Inspired by the case of the Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes who was shot dead by South London police shortly after the terrorist attack on the London Tube, Dasgupta’s most recent film is a powerful polemic against intolerance. Set in modern day Calcutta, a city torn between tradition and modernity, The Voyeurs is an eccentric mix of romantic comedy and harsh social drama. The film premiered in the Toronto Film Festival Masters of Cinema section.
