Bacurau is a nocturnal bird in Brazil that can camouflage itself. Bacurau is also the name of a remote village in the north of the country, a village lost in time. Not very far there’s an invisible danger: an intangible threat that becomes more concrete when all of a sudden the area is deleted from the electronic maps, the phones have no signal, strange visitors come along and a mysterious drone that looks like a flying saucer patrols the skies.

Two years after the beautiful ‘Aquarius’, Brazilian Kleber Mendonça Filho shares directorial duties with his former production designer Juliano Dornelles offering us a violent western of a wonderfully paranoid mix of social allegory, science fiction and dystopic vision. An unforgettable role for the great cult actor Udo Kier, and winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes. L.K.

KLEBER MENDONÇA FILHO
A multi-tasker cinema man, Brazilian Filho is a director, producer, screenwriter and film critic. He’s had more than 120 distinctions and participations at domestic and international festivals.

JULIANO DORNELLES 
Producer, director and set designer. He was born in Brazil where he lives and works. He has been working with ‘Simio Filmes’ group since 2001.
