A quiet family man sees his life and small business become the target of a business group with strong ties in government which tries to impede any activity it doesn't control. In Rasoulof's hands, this quintessential battle of a single man against a corrupt system is transformed into an exemplary drama. The film was recently honoured with the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

A Man Of Integrity

Reza is leading a quiet family life in a north Iran village. His daily life revolves around his small fish farm of goldfish. Trouble starts when a business association supported by the government sets its mind to Reza because he refuses to sell his land. The archetypalbattle of a man of integrity against the corrupt system is elevated in the skillful hands of Mohammad Rasoulof to an exemplary drama about the odyssey of a hero who refuses to compromise as far as morality and justice is concerned. A Cannes Film Festival darling, the Iranian director of “Goodbye” and “Manuscripts don’t Burn” gives us a politically sharp film that attacks everything that is wrong in his country, winning “A Certain Glance” prize at Cannes.
