A postmodern adaptation of Dostoevsky' s “White Nights”, this charming debut by the 26 year old Brazilian director blurs the limits of reality and fantasy following Antonio at three different crossroads in his life. Lost loves, hardship and the loneliness of a big city leave their mark on a 20-year old man who is trying to make ends meet in modern-day Lisbon.

Antonio One Two Three

He is only 26 years old but Leonardo Mouramateus has already some exquisite films and many awards to show. His debut is an umpteenth adaptation of Dostoyevski’s White Nights –film adaptations also have been made by Bresson, Visconti, Gray and Guerinamong others . Mouramateus’ version seems to be the one closest to the original text.

He adopts its formalistic pursuits as well as the fragmented post-narration, and is characterized by the same overpowering youthful momentum. All these are coupled with his personal style, the camera’s obsession to trace closely feelings on bodies and faces. Every facial or bodily expression becomes an unbearable defeat or a small triumph on screen. The characters demand the future but live the present. “Antonio One Two Three” is the valuable promise of a genuine talent.
