A God-fearing father of two, Pablo is the perfect example of a successful family man until the moment his love affair with a man comes to light. A film of discrete emotions which uncovers the deeply conservative responses of Guatemalan society and documents the emotional upheaval of the hero who is forced to suppress his sexual desires or forever lose the love of his family.

Pablo seems to have it all. He has a family, he is a financial advisor at a big company, he is a church going well-respected man. But he also has a secret. And that’s enough to destroy the seeming harmony and cause tremors in his life. Some people don’t think that the stories about homophobia are necessary. But they are and there are reasons for that.

Far away from the European and North American geography, taking place in Guatemala, ‘Tremors’ combines the actual volcanic tremors with the metaphorical tremors in the life of a man and a society which sees sexuality as a sin. The environment, the firing, the Church, the family all create a ‘net’ which is not seen as outright ‘evil’ but as a by-product of the specific culture of an era. A significant, serious film, with an excellent dramatic use of humour. I.D.
