Axolotl Overkill

Just like the amphibian of the title, 16-year-old Mifti, following her mother’s death, refuses to grow up and gets carried away by the allure of Berlin nights. She experiences a hedonistic delirium of alcohol, drugs and casual sex and falls for Alice, a quite older woman. When their relationship ends, Mifti will seek revenge.

Based on her autobiographical novel that she wrote at 17, the now 24-year-old Helene Hegemann makes a sexy and raging film debut which received an award in Sundance Film Festival for the amazing photography of Manuel Dacosse. Using surrealistic patterns and video dance forms the director captures the tension, the confusion and the sexual desire that overwhelm the mind and the body of a teenage girl who lives each day as if it were her last. Director in attendance
