Rummaging through the painstakingly assembled Harry Smith Archives, The Old, Weird America unearths rare recordings by blues and country giants such as Blind Lemon Jefferson and Roscoe Holcombe to track the history of American 20th century music from 1927 to 1934 (?). Rani Singh directs an engrossing documentary about the wealth of American folk music (which has set to music every sin on earth) featuring fascinating commentary by top contemporary musicians like Beck, Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, Nick Cave and Philip Glass, who talk in awe about their musical roots and the beginnings of electronic music.
