27th Athens International Film Festival: "Greek Short Stories" Awards
For the 27th event of the Athens International Film Festival, 40 Greek short stories, out of 273 submissions, completed for the awards which are this year exclusively sponsored by the Greek Film Centre with cash prizes for the total amount of 5000 Euros (2000 Euros for the GOLDEN ATHENA and 1000 Euros each for the SILVER ATHENA and the BEST DIRECTOR and BEST SCREENPLAY awards). Moreover, the jury presented the time-honoured awards for BEST PERFORMANCE BY A MALE AND FEMALE ACTOR.
The jury of the “Greek Short Stories” competition section of the 27th Athens International Film Festival was consisted of:

Golden Athena Award
HORSEPOWER by Spyros Skandalos
In the jury’s own words: “For a film which captured in a bold and personal manner the dead-end of a generation that grew up trapped”.
The award is accompanied by a cash prize for the amount of 2000 Euros, kindly sponsored by the Greek Film Centre.
Silver Athina Special Jury Prize
FROM THE BALCONY by Aris Kaplanidis
In the jury’s own words: “For a film which composes a human geography in a clever, complete and original manner while simultaneously revealing a deeply touching story”.
The award is accompanied by a cash prize for the amount of 1000 Euros, kindly sponsored by the Greek Film Centre.
Best Director
Manolis Mavris for the movie BRUTALIA, DAYS OF LABOUR
In the jury’s own words: “The Best Director award is presented - for the orchestration and powerful visualisation of a dystopian world that is both malicious and threatened”.
The award is accompanied by a cash prize for the amount of 1000 Euros, kindly sponsored by the Greek Film Centre.
Best Screenplay
Ilias Roumeliotis for the movie FROM THE BALCONY
In the jury’s own words: “ To the hilarious, original prose of the most recognisable Greek human geography!”.

Best Female Performance
Presented jointly to Katerina Zisoudi for the movie AFTER NOON and Ioanna Kolliopoulou for the movie HORSEPOWER

Best Male Performance
Ilias Moulas for the movie AFTER NOON by Alexios Koukias-Pantelis

Documentary Special Mention
Kaiti Papadima for the movie EVERY SUNDAY
In the jury’s own words: “The jury gives a special mention to a film which links a story of extreme and serial gender-based violence with the background story of a beauty contest by clearly revealing the stereotypes of a deep-rooted patriarchy”.
Artistic Direction Special Mention
Daphne Kalogianni and Eva Goulakou for the movie BRUTALIA, DAYS OF LABOUR
In the jury’s own words: “The jury gives special mention for the artistic direction of a film which portrays the world of humans through the allegory of the world of a bee, offering images or rare beauty and disturbing uniformity”.
Photography Special Mention
Argyris Germanidis for the Direction of Photography to the movie CORTÁZAR by Argyris Germanidis and Katerina Strauch
In the jury’s own words: “The Special Mention of Photography is given for the depiction of a world fragmented, trapped and alone, which maintains its desire to escape and reunify”.
