Meanwhile, «Don’t Look Now» - an exemplary adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel - follows an English married couple which travels through a misty and inhospitable Venice. There, the architect-husband is called to renovate a local church while at the same time he is trying to exorcise, together with his wife, the pain of their big loss. A series of terrifying omens, events of metaphysical nature and creepy warnings, however, will turn their stay there into a morbid date with the big Unknown and the total absurd.
A combination of mystery film, psychological drama and horror creation, this pure masterpiece with the amazing editing, the exceptional Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie, the plunged into threat atmosphere, the dovetail between metaphysical and real and the directorial masterfulness might as well be the magnum opus of Nicolas Roeg.
