Eureka

A golddigger hits the big time in 1925 rural Canada. Decades later, as a deeply wealthy family man, he fears everything he’s built is under threat. One of the weirdest films to come out of the Hollywood studio system, Nicolas Roeg’s “Citizen Cane” features the most glamorous cast of his entire career.

"Eureka", Nicolas Roeg’s attempt to make is own "Citizen Cane", is the most bizarre film in his entire filmography. It opens in the frozen expanses of Alaska, where in 1925 a golddigger’s year-long efforts are finally vindicated when he literally stumbles upon a mountain of gold. 17 years later, he has retired to a private island only to watch his whole world come tumbling down thanks to his family’s insurmountable personal problems and the incessant efforts of criminal organizations to snatch away his fortune. Partially based on real-life events, "Eu- reka" assembles a glamorous cast and positions a classic rags-to-riches story amidst a kaleidoscope of ideas, allegory, occult symbols, monumental scenes and a general adventurous spirit that has marked some of Roeg’s most successful efforts.
