Parties, guests, roundtables! Check the side events of the 23rd Athens International Film Festival

The 23rd Athens International Film Festival - Opening Nights is not limited to film screenings, but it offers a great number of interesting side events!

During the days of the festival, the audience will have the opportunity to attend press conferences, to listen distinguished guests in masterclasses and to participate in roundtables.

Entry in all side events is free. 

Actress and activist Vanessa Redgrave is coming to Athens for the 23rd Athens International Film Festival

On the occasion of the screening of the film «Sea Sorrow», a press conference will be held by Vanessa Redgrave and Lord Alfred Dubs at the Radisson Blu Park Hotel (10 Alexandras Ave.) on Thursday 21st September at 17:30.

Following the first screening of Sea Sorrow at the Cannes Film Festival last May, as well as the positive response from audiences and critics alike, Vanessa Redgrave returns to Greece, accompanied by Lord Alfred Dubs, for the Athens International Film Festival's single screening of the film.

In an evening full of special meaning, Sea Sorrow will be screened at the Athens Concert Hall on Friday the 22nd September 2017 at 8:00 pm.

Mimi Denisi will introduce the documentary and after the screening there will be an open discussion between the audience and: Vanessa Redgrave, Lord Alfred Dubs (UK Labour Party, supporter of Safe Passage), Mimi Denisi, “Doctors Without Borders” and “Safe Passage”.

Press Conference for the film «120 Beats per Minute», with director Robin Campillo and lead actor Arnaud Valois.

Saturday, 23 September | 17:00 | Aegean Omiros College (Panepistimiou 17, ground level)

The 23rd Athens International Film Festival and the distribution company Weird Wave invite you for the press conference for the film «120 Beats Per Minute», which will be moderated by Festival's artistic director Loukas Katsikas.

The film will be screened for the first time in Greence at Ideal on Saturday, 23 September at 19.45, as part of the spotlight for the director Robin Campillo. The film that brought a tear to Pedro Almodovar's eyes, president of the recent Cannes Film Festival jury, chronicles a group of people in the 80s who passionately opposed the world's indifference to a powerful and deadly disease. Campillo's direction, imbued with youthful momentum, uniquely combines the collective with the individual and the personal with the political. Campillo presents the audience with an emotional grenade. Winner of the Grand Prize of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival.

Director and lead actor will also attend the premiere of the film. «120BPM» will be out at the greek cinemas on 28 September by Weird Wave.

Best Greek Newcomers Awards

Monday, 25 September | 19:30 | Danaos 1

The ceremony will be followed by the screening of the film «Konstantinos Tzoumas: An Actor by Nature» by Dimitris Koutsiabasakos.

A cinematic portrait of Kontantinos Tzoumas, a man who has been described as sarcastic by nature, an idiosyncratic actor and an instinctive author. The screening will be followed by a discussion with cast & crew.

Screening of «BLU»: A collaboration with the 10th International Animation Festival + Agora – Animasyros and the Onassis Cultural Centre

Tuesday 26 September | 17:30 | Onassis Cultural Centre (107 Syngrou Avenue)

“BLU” is a multidimensional artistic venture which introduces habits and ideas of Greek and Italian fimmakers through the prism of animation and digital arts. This activity makes for an original cultural discussion between two countries with design, illustration and the moving image as a starting point, giving visitors the opportunity to come into contact with the contemporary art scene and digital creation.

The event will be introduced by Vassilis Karamitsanis , President of animasyros and curators of the “Blu” event Rafaela Karagianni and Anastasia Terzidou.

The legendary festival's parties are back! After specific screenings, the festival moves its energy from the movie theatres to bars where the audience can dance and exchange opinions about the films. Jameson is the supporter of the events and the viewers can have a free drink if they provide a valid festival ticket.

During the festival, TGI Fridays at Kolonaki and Ambelokipi become the “meeting point” for the festival team and the audience! Every day from 15:30 to 17:30, viewers who can provide a valid festival ticket, they will have the opportunity to choose from a selection of cocktails only for 5 euros and also finger food from a half priced bar food.
