Welcome to Beirut. Disorientation is part of the journey here. Seventy years of images and sounds from Lebanon, are distilled in this jaw-dropping cinematic journey.
Do You Love Me is a personal journey to the audiovisual memory of Lebanon, built entirely from archive material. It is a love letter to Beirut, running through 70 years of cinema, television, video and photography that investigates the collective soul of Lebanon, a soul defined by joy, intimacy but also destruction and loss.
Through the eyes of people, filmmakers and artists, the film reconstructs a broken history of a country without a national archive, praising the creative expression as means of resistance, rejuvenation as well as a way to preserve memory.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR - LANA DAHER
Lana Daher, an Onassis AiR Fellow 26-27, is a filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist, based in Beirut, Lebanon. She studied Fine Arts and graphic design (BFA, American University of Beirut) and filmmaking (MA, Goldsmiths, University of London). She has been active for years in the dynamic art and musical Beirut scene, creating work that combines sound, image and archiving.
Her work is based on extensive research and an intuitive understanding of narration, exploring the space between documentary and fiction, connecting different periods of time and emotional landscapes.
Do You Love Me is her first feature-length film, a filmic essay that was composed by the rich, though fragmented, audiovisual archive of Lebanon. Parallel to the film she created a site, serving as a well-documented index of sources for the material used for the movie, aiming to reconnect Lebanese filmmaking legacy with a local and international audience: doyouloveme.film.
A graduate of IDFAcademy, Lana co-produced the film via her production company, My Little Films, established in 2024.
