NIKOS PAPATAKIS (1918-2010)
Greek film director, born in Ethiopia in 1918 and raised in France and New York. He owned a bar in Paris where Juliette Gréco performed; he co-produced John Cassavetes first film; played an active role in the Algerian War (with the National Liberation Front) and made his feature-film debut in the early 1960s with a film that caused a stir at the Cannes Film Festival. One of the leading figures in the world of experimenting narrative cinema.
