KEN RUSSELL (1927-2011)
Pioneering British film director celebrated for his flamboyant, boundary-pushing style and lavish visuals. He began his career directing highly inventive arts documentaries for the BBC, including the acclaimed “Elgar” (1962). Russell achieved international fame with his Oscar-winning adaptation of “Women in Love” (1969). Known for rejecting quiet realism in favor of sensory excess and shock value, Russell is one of the precious iconoclasts of 20th century’s second half.
