Russia, the present. A truce between the ancient forces of the Light and Dark Ones is temporarily keeping crisis at bay, but now the scales are about to tip. Day Watch, sequel to Russian blockbuster Night Watch, begins with a brief summary of the original’s convoluted plot and plunges head on into action: the epic battle between Light Guards, vampires and sorcerers begins. Bekmambetov one again works wonders with his graphic novel material and produces a tight, fast-paced sci-fi flick filled with enough action and drama to turn all Hollywood equivalents green with envy. The film received a special screening at the Berlin Film Festival.
