Young Adam director and Billie Elliot star join forces in a dark coming-of-age tale with strong sexual undertones. After his mother dies in a mysterious accident, young Hallam Foe begins to suspect his father’s ex-secterary-turned-wife. The plot thickens when said foster mother decides to seduce him. However Hallam’s means of discovering the truth are no less deviant; the sexually frustrated teenager will soon find himself penniless, giving in to a growing obsession. A powerful existential thriller with strong Hitchcockean influences, Hallam Foe is by far Mackenzie’s more evocative, titillating and mature work to date. The film won the Silver Bear for Best Film Music at Berlin Film Festival.
