A skate-crazed teenager, an accidental murder and an inner storm of conflicting emotions and thoughts are the basic ingredients of Paranoid Park, whose title refers both to the real-life Portland skatepark and to the young hero’s turbulent state of mind. Cool and aloof, Van Sant records the daily trials and tribulations of an accidental killer in distress. In Paranoid Park Gus Van Sant waves goodbye to the strict formalism seen in his Death Trilogy (Gerry, Elephant, Last Days) to break new ground. The film received the Cannes Festival 60th Anniversary Award.
