Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

Forget everything you know about exploitation movies. Cannibal Holocaust is probably the only film that has captured genuine horror on camera, earning the dubious title of the most morbid movie of all time. Structured as a pseudo-documentary ?a narrative technique that paved the way for Blair Witch Project- Deodato follows two expeditions into the Amazonian jungle - or else the heart of darkness. Featuring real animal slaughter, excruciating torture and painfully realistic cannibalism scenes (Deodato actually had to present his actors on TV to prove that they were still, well, alive) Cannibal Holocaust has been labeled offensive, vile, repugnant and morally objectionable, yet never fails to raise poignant questions about the human psyche. Squeamish types and idealists need not apply.
