Happy Go Lucky

Hopelessly irresponsible, relentlessly optimistic and ever so slightly bonkers, Poppy (a wonderful performance by Sally Hawkins) is a truly happy-go-lucky primary school teacher who keeps on laughing in the face of her personal misfortunes ? including her creepy driving teacher’s advances. Better known for his working-class dramas, Secrets and Lies director Mike Leigh tries his hand at comedy passing the test with flying colors. And while tragedy is never very far from the surface, this time Leigh wraps it up with a refreshing light heartedness and good cheer. Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
