The Upsetter
Despite being one of the most influential figures in music history, as well as the man who invented dub and brought Bob Marley into the recording studio, Lee Scratch Perry remains a somewhat enigmatic persona. Born in Jamaica in 1935, the ‘Upsetter’, as he liked to call himself, survived through a series of personal ups and downs, but never stopped living and breathing from music. Featuring rare archive material and hard-to-find interviews with Perry himself, Ethan Highbee’s and Adam Bhala Lough’s compelling documentary sheds light not only on a contemporary music legend, but on a whole culture that remains largely obscure to most.
