Choke
Colonial theme park worker Victor Mancini has made an art out of manipulating other peoples’ vulnerabilities: an incurable sex addict, he preys on sex addiction support groups and when he’s not doing that, he tries to pay for his senile mother’s hospital bills by pretending to choke in expensive restaurants in order to elicit the sympathy of sensitive patrons and leech them. When, in a rare lucid moment, his mother reveals a clue on his father’s identity, Victor throws himself into a frenzied search for the truth accompanied by his pathological masturbator best friend and a sexy doctor. Based on Chuck Palahniuk’s (Fight Club) eponymous novel, actor Clark Gregg’s darkly funny directorial debut received the Special Jury Prize at Sundance.
