Gomorra
Welcome to the wider Naples region, stomping ground of the infamous Camorra, a loosely-structured organization of crime families operating in the Campania region. Virtually unchecked by authorities, the Camorra is not only in total control of all criminal activities, but has also penetrated many aspects of civilian life. Based on the eponymous best seller by Italian journalist Roberto Saviano (who has lived under police protection ever since its publication), Mateo Garrone’s new film revolves around the Camorra’s impact on the lives of six ordinary citizens. Hailed as one of the most realistic films ever made on criminal organizations, Gomorra has a giant hit at the Italian box office and prompted ?alongside Il Divo- a question at the Italian parliament about the country’s image abroad. Grand Prize at Cannes.
