Macunaima
Macunaima’s is born fully grown by an elderly woman in the Amazon jungle. He is black, but after his mother’s death, he is baptized in a spring and becomes white. After his color change, he moves to Rio de Janeiro with his two brothers, where he meets Ci, a young guerrilla fighter wearing a stone amulet. They fall in love, move in together and after some time, Ci gives birth to a child. But Ci and her child are killed, when a bomb she was carrying suddenly detonates, and the stone amulet is lost. Based on the eponymous novel by the great Brazilian modernist Mário de Andrade, ?Macunaima? is a satirical allegory of modern Brazilian history and society, with the main characters standing for Brazil's three major ethnic groups: blacks, whites, and the indigenous tribes of the Amazon.
