Funk Carioca is a type of music that is played and listened to loudly, a rowdy mixture of American 80s funk and various local music genres originating in some of the poorest and more violent places in the world: the notorious Rio favelas. Having visited over 60 favelas and spoken with hundreds of people, directors Leandro HBL and Wesley Pentz offer up a true rough diamond, the life soundtrack of the slums, where for many, the wild all-night funk parties are the only means of making it through the day.
