Stop Making Sense
Many consider ?Stop Making Sense? as ?one of the best rock movies ever made?; they’re right. Although nothing more that a Talking Heads concert film shot in the Hollywood Pantages Theater during the course of three nights, ?Stop Making Sense? really takes wings thanks to the genius of director Jonathan Demme and Heads lead singer David Byrne. The movie begins with Byrne alone on stage, while technicians behind him make the last preparations for the show. During the gig, Talking Heads are joined on stage by the likes of Bernie Worrell (Parliament) and Alex Weir (Brothers Johnson). The opening credits are a tribute to Kubrick’s ?Dr Strangelove? while Byrne’s oversized jacket has made history. The film is also remarkable for being the first to use digital audio techniques throughout. And the title? Well that comes from the Heads’ song ?Girlfriend is Better?.
