Only 17, Bilal has left Iran behind to join his girlfriend who has emigrated to the UK. His journey has taken him up to the north of France; now the only thing lying between him and his girlfriend is the English Channel. Unable to find a conventional way of crossing it, Bilal decides to swim; he’s not the first and he certainly won’t be the last. But he finds an unlikely ally in Simon, a lifeguard with some love woes of his own.
