JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT:THE RADIANT CHILD
Jean-Michel Basquiat was the first Afro-American international art star and one of the people that literally defined contemporary art. Subversive and idiosyncratic, Basquiat's work was a relentless attack against white America - and occasionally against the very art establishment that made him a star until his death from a drug overdose in 1988. Fifty years after his birth, Tamra Davis's documentary has the same shock value that Basquiat's art and cult personality had back in the 80s. Davis, a member of the artist's bohemian group of followers, enriches her documentary with rare footage from his life and never seen before artwork by Basquiat. From the notorious New York East Side to international stardom, Basquiat's star continues to radiate just as brightly as it did 30 years ago.
