ANGEL

An unfairly neglected Lubitsch gem, "Angel" features a ravishing Marlene Dietrich in a playful performance as Maria, the neglected wife of a British lord, who is bored enough to run away from her husband on a secret trip to Paris. Staying at a friend's high-end brothel, Maria meets Tony, an obliging American tourist, with whom she flirts around the City of Light. However, she decides not to give in and returns to her husband in England. But when the couple accidentally come across Tony, Maria feels her passion rekindling. Lubitsch's skill for mixing light humor with dark sexual desire is nowhere more evident than in "Angel", which boasts of some of the best scenes in the history of cinema.
