MONTE CARLO
When the high priest of silent film was given the chance to work with the new technology of sound, the result was "Monte Carlo", a cheerful and romantic musical comedy that stands the test of time like a finely crafted jewel. Jeanette MacDonald plays Helene, a superstitious countess who prefers gambling to playing happy spouse for her good-for-nothing husband. She arrives at Monaco without a dime in her purse, but luckily for her she meets Count Rudolph who, enticed by her golden tresses falls head over heels for her. When he accidentally touches her hair landing her a big win, Helene hires him as her gambling partner. And when she runs out of money, she is more than happy to find out that Rudolph has enough to support her gambling habit.
