BENDA BILILI!
It is the summer of 2009 and five paraplegics and one teenager mount the stage driving an 8000-strong audience to hysterics with their music. Barret and de la Tullaye's documentary tells the amazing story of five paraplegic street musicians from Kinsasha, Congo, who rose to international stardom thanks to their explosive mix of Congolese rumba, rhythm 'n' blues and reggae. Starting off from their first rehearsals and following them through their 5-year-long efforts to achieve their dream, "Benda Bilili!" looks beyond the success story and into the driving force working within these truly remarkable people. A testament to human determination and perseverance against all odds, "Benda Bilili" reminds us that life itself is indeed the most authentic script of all.
