Laura is stuck in a rut. For the 25-year-old journalist living alone in a small Mexico City apartment life has slipped into a familiar pattern involving going to work, coming home, eating dinner, phoning friends and family and having one night stands with strangers she meets at bars. But this comforting -if depressing- routine is suddenly blown to pieces, when a random one nighter develops into a passionate, sexually charged affair with unpredictable consequences. Director Michael Rowe's surgical precision and Monica Del Carmen's haunting performance are truly the making of this film, shot exclusively in Laura's apartment. Inventive and introspective to the very last scene, "Leap Year" won the Camera D'Or at Cannes.
