Mikael is a cold blooded attorney who after his divorce takes over in full his son's Dani guardianship. As the boy turns to a handsome teenager Mikael gets overprotective and starts watching all his moves. Mikael's first wife passes away and in her funeral Dani meets Tilda, Mikael's daughter from his first wedding. When Dani gets close with her step sister his father desperately tries everything to break up the romance. As soon rational means fail, Mikael turns into a sick protector who even plots his son's kidnapping. All these mafia methods in a Kaurismaaki produced film in which all the tragic and comic varieties of real life blend.
