SNOW AND ASHES

Blaise, a Canadian war correspondent, wakes up in a Quebec hospital after a temporary comma. By his side, he sees the girlfriend of a long time colleague, with whom he was covering events in Eastern Europe. Blaise is the only one of the two that made it back, but his partial amnesia prevents him from remembering what happened to his photographer friend and why he couldn't return to Canada with him. Michaud's debut film is a low budget gem that shines through thanks to its realistic writing and frank portrayal of war. The title gives a very good idea of what the film itself is like: direct and iconoclastic, it addresses viewers straightforwardly though clear and emotive images. Images such as the one evoked in the title, that exists somewhere in the film waiting to be discovered.
