A Separation

After 14 years of marital life, Simin and Nader want to divorce. They live in Tehran with their 11-year-old daughter and Nader’s elderly father, who has Alzheimer’s. When one day Simin decides that they should move to another country, one that offers more opportunities to women, she clashes with Nader, who wants to stay in Iran to take care of his father. The multi-award winning film by Asghar Farhadi, which won the Golden Bear of the Berlin Film Festival among others, is the stirring portrait of a shattered relationship, while at the same time unfolding as an introspection of the patriarchal and religious power structures of contemporary Iran.
