Backyard

In Iceland a guy named Arni comes up with the idea of gathering in his backyard musicians of the Reykjavik underground scene, in order to record them. In a tiny space he piles up machinery and musical instruments of all sorts, and prays for good weather. He then bakes cookies, invites his neighbours over and treats them to the musical accompaniment from the finest Icelandic musicians of his generation. At the same time, a second Arni films the event without missing a single beat, from the build-up to the departure of the last guest, offering a loud and lively musical documentary with renowned bands like Mùm, FM Belfast, Hjaltalίn and Sin Fang Bous. After the financial disaster and all the adversity, “Backyard”, thanks to the warmth of its amplifiers, comes to remind us that art and comradeship are the most beautiful and priceless things in life. And they’re for free.
