The Artist
George Valentin is the biggest star in the Hollywood of the 20s, a hero on the verge of the revolutionary change of the film medium. Sound invades cinema and the industry is on the hunt for attractive voices, apart from glowing faces – thus, George is on the wane. Peppy Miller, on the other hand, is a charming and fresh-faced young woman, who goes from being a fan and an extra to a great star of the talkies. The attraction they feel for one another is irrefutable, but they will have to go through all kinds of adventure to be together. The film that stood out in the recent Cannes Film Festival is a wonderful silent comedy in black and white, which, in the midst of the reign of the 3D, is a nod to film history, proving that real film magic is right in front of our eyes, far way from special effects and digital fanfare.
