Hospitality
Kobayashi lives with his peculiar family in a two-storey house, using the ground floor as a print shop and the above floor as their home. One day, the 40-year-old, self-confident Kagawa arrives at the shop; he manages to get a job there and soon moves in the Kobayashi residence with his wife. The family, however, is unaware of the fact that Kagawa knows many of their guilty secrets, which he intends to take advantage of with the worst of intentions. Using the classic Japanese cinema, and the films of the unsurpassed Yasujiro Ozu, as his influence, Koji Fukada presents a cheery farce, perfectly combining a neat comedy of manners with the gags of a rampant slapstick tone. Concealed behaviours, suppressed instincts and laughs galore, in a satire that aims at the feeling of xenophobia among the Japanese.
