The Dynamiter
Yet another hot summer starts for 14-year-old Robbie in the small provincial Mississippi town where he lives. His depressive mother has left him alone at home and he has to work to support his grandmother and his younger brother. When his older brother, Lucas, comes home, Robbie will think for a moment that the family is regrouping, but the dream won’t last long. The heroic battle of a boy, who’s called to take on the burden of adulthood prematurely, is the focal point of Matthew Gordon’s independent debut. A visually flawless film, dipped in the eccentricity of the American South, “The Dynamiter” explores the human need for hope and how it can sometimes lead to atonement.
