The Mountain
Nora and Solveig are trekking a snow-covered landscape during a long trip that will lead the two women to the top of a mountain. It appears that Solveig, who’s three months pregnant, can’t satisfy the needs of her partner, Nora. The deeper they get into their journey, the closer they get to a location where a tragic event took place two years ago, an incident that changed their lives completely. Ole Giaever in his directorial debut chooses a minimal style of filming to highlight a majestic landscape that becomes an active part of the narrative by reflecting the feelings of this tragic story’s heroines. Simmering resentment, underlying sorrow and a dysfunctional lack of communication are brought to life thanks to the fantastic performances by the two leads, and create a deeply melancholic and savage film.
