Deep End
Mike, an introverted 15-year-old, gets a job at the public bath-houses of a London suburb, where he falls passionately in love with his beautiful colleague, Susan, a 22-year-old seducer who knows very well how to handle men. Even though she’s engaged, Mike will do his best to sabotage her relationship, ending up following her. The closer he gets to the object of his desire, however, the deeper he sinks into the depths of the obsession that haunts his sexual awakening. With an addictive soundtrack, which includes music by Cat Stevens and Can, Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski masterfully captures the uncertain atmosphere that followed the sexual liberation of the 60s, depicting the dark side of swinging London as a delusional erotic fantasy, incompatible with the limits of the harsh reality. Just as provocative and sensual 40 years after its first release, “Deep End” will be screened from a restored print.
