Karkalou
"Is it a film on death? That too, but it's also a film on creativity as a last resort. Because once the form has emerged, creativity dies. Not because there is nothing left to say, but as an added element of surprise, just like death itself. Perhaps Karkalou is only bluffing, but fiction and verisimilitude help recover madness and idealism."
An elderly gentleman is sitting in the back of a taxi, driven by a much younger man. There's a coffin in the trunk. The meter's running and the two men are driving, but no one knows where they're going or why and what their relationship really is.
Tornes is on the road again, wandering down dirt paths and up barren hills, looking for a magical hut in the middle of nowhere. He's looking for the truth only to turn it on its head the minute he finds it.
What is "Karkalou"? Tornes himself will later wonder: "Is it a film on death? That too, but it's also a film on creativity as a last resort. Because once the form has emerged, creativity dies. Not because there is nothing left to say, but as an added element of surprise, just like death itself. Perhaps Karkalou is only bluffing, but fiction and verisimilitude help recover madness and idealism." K.S.
