The Ninth Configuration
Set during the Vietnam War, ?The Ninth Configuration? stars Colonel Kane, an army psychiatrist blighted by nightmares, who is sent to a remote military mental asylum to sort through the bona fide insane and those faking it to avoid the war. Kane listens patiently to each and every one of them hoping to cure them, while at the same time battling his own demons.
?Above all, ‘The Ninth Configuration’ is a filmic peculiarity, hermetically closed in on itself, stubbornly exiled from all stereotypes and practically unable to gain unprepared viewers’ acceptance. Its culmination is still considered one of the most enigmatic and controversial finales ever put on screen.? Golden Globe for Best Screenplay.
