The multi-award-winning protagonist of ‘A Separation’ gives an impressive performance of a one-time wrestling champion who escapes along with his family from Iran in order to avoid the consequences of a painful rumor about him. Living everyday with the fear of getting deported, in a hotel filled with refugees in the freezing Swedish North, our hero decides to return professionally to the ring. But that’s where the past and his suppressed side he tries to escape from him. ‘Opponent’ takes the trial of a man who seeks to define his identity and freedom by dealing with prejudice and himself, and turns it into a powerful drama. MILAD ALAMI
Swedish filmmaker born in Iran in 1982, based now in Denmark. He studied at the National School of Denmark. He has worked in television and short films. ‘Opponent’ was nominated for six awards at this year’s Berlin Festival.
