GEORGIA, ITALY, FRANCE | 2024 | COLOR | DCP | 134’ | GEORGIAN
One of the cinematic discoveries of 2024, “April” is the story of an obstetrician at a provincial hospital whose job is threatened when the parents of an infant who died in childbirth accuse her of negligence. What most people don't know, however, and are in danger of discovering imminently, is that Nina performs illegal abortions in poor villages where women are still subservient, thus carrying out a defiant individual rebellion. An unforgettable combination of drama and nightmare, a display of great directorial power, “April” rises as an existential thriller in which birth, death, beauty and brutality become stories the human body carries within. Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
