It is 1982, and an 11-year-old orphan girl finds the family she has been missing in the heart of a small queer community living in an isolated town in the desert of northern Chile. The landscape is inhospitable and harshly male-dominated, but the courageous members of the community respond with titillating wit and courage, until rumors of a contagious deadly virus spread fear and violence throughout the region. It is incredible that this spectacular, passionate, and magnanimous film is a directorial debut. And yet, the young director manages to combine moving allegory with proud melodrama in a vivid and feverish combination that deservedly won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival’s ‘Un Certain Regard’ and constitutes Chile's official submission for the 2026 Oscars. DIEGO CÉSPEDES
Chilean filmmaker, born in 1995. He studied Film & Television at Universidad de Chile. In 2018, he wrote and directed his first short, “The Summer of the Electric Lion”, which won the Cinéfondation First Prize at Cannes Film Festival. This is his feature film debut.
