It would never be easy being a young drag queen in a totalitarian country or a country with totalitarian tendencies. It would be even harder being a drag activist –downright impossible if your country was in war and call to arms was upon you. And it’s probably unheard of being the drag artist who turns through performance art into a human exhibit mirroring the troubles of the world. This is the story of 21 year-old Jenna. In Agniia Galdanova’s observational documentary shine both the artistic psyche and the obsolete humanity in oligarchic Russia’s exhausted soul. Drag always ‘needs attention’ but artists like Jenna elevate it into so much more. I.D.
