THE ECHO | EL ECO
MEXICO, GERMANY | 2023 | COLOR | DCP | 102’ | SPANISH
On the highlands of Mexico, in one of Puebla’s underdeveloped villages, the life of families, especially children (particularly girls) is a mixture of farm work, will to learn and constant struggle to survive. But Tatiana Huezo (‘Prayers for the Stolen’Golden Athena for best film and Silver Athena for best direction at AIFF 2021) is not an ordinary documentarist. She sees the rendezvous and goodbyes among generations, she watches the harmonious coexistence with nature, places her bet on the human struggle for betterment. And above all she listens to her heroes. Their hopes, questions and fears, the echo of dreams that sometimes crash on walls, while others proliferate in the endless landscape and the innate human rebelliousness. I.D.
