The cliché saying that the next world war will be over water finds its ultimate application in Laikipia, as the prolonged drought awakens class conflicts silenced for years. One of the best documentaries of the year, and one of the most important ever made on the subject of climate change, comes with the double signature of Oscar nominee Daphne Matziaraki and award-winning Kenyan director and producer Peter Murimi. A model of dialectic, set against the backdrop of stunning illustrations of a vast wildlife refuge, The Battle for Laikipia chronicles the conflict between the rich and the poor, never hesitating to pump up the volume while documenting the irreversible evils of modern colonialism.
