And at a time when freedom of expression and the press are under greater threat than ever in her country, Poitras responds with a scathing look back at some of the most scandalous incidents of constitutional abuse in modern American history. Our guide is the renowned political editor and journalist Seymour Hersh, who, in his six decades of militant career, has exposed everything from the massacres of civilians in Vietnam and the Watergate scandal to the CIA's surveillance of citizens and the torture in Abu Ghraib detention centers. Drawing invaluable lessons from Hersh's turbulent career, the film traces the path of the trampling of democracy, starting in Vietnam and continuing to the present day, in Trump's America and the atrocities in Gaza, appealing for the urgent need to defend the truth against a system of corruption and hypocrisy that is increasingly winning. L.K.

LAURA POITRAS, MARK OBENHAUS
Laura Poitras is an Oscar-winning American documentary filmmaker and producer, born in 1964. Her work focuses on exploring structures of power, surveillance, and war, and she has received numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for her work on mass surveillance by the NSA.

Mark Obenhaus is a leading producer, director and writer of documentary television and film. During the 1970s, he produced and photographed commercials in association with Bob Fosse while he wrote and directed two independent dramatic films.
